The ICU has been upgraded from floor to ceiling, meeting international fire safety standards and ensuring a reliable supply of oxygen. Each bed is equipped with ECG machines and essential diagnostic tools, enhancing the quality of care provided.

This project has been realized through trust, transparency, and a shared purpose, reinforcing Connaught Hospitalโ€™s status as a referral and teaching hospital. Extensive investment from the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has transformed the ICU, which now houses 12 critical care beds with a centralized oxygen delivery system and a dedicated isolation room for special infections.

This initiative goes beyond physical infrastructure; it embodies the national aspiration for a high-quality working environment and public health commitment. The government has pledged to maintain this facility, ensuring it remains an exemplary teaching and training school, raising the level of medical education and practice in the country.

Today, I am proud to stand alongside my husband, His Excellency President Dr. Julius Maada Bio, as we witness the revival of the historic canoe race here in Bonthe, Sherbro Island.This cherished tradition, discontinued since 1964, returns as part of our commitment to restoring Sherbro cultural heritage and identityโ€”a moment of national pride.

President Bio reignited the competition with seven teams, including representatives from neighboring chiefdoms and Bonthe Municipality. This revival celebrates Sherbro heritage, defined by our boats and fishing, while also boosting tourism, strengthening the local economy, and honoring our history.

Presenting trophies and prizes was deeply fulfilling. After nearly 60 years, the joy this event brought reaffirms our commitment to preserving our traditions. Congratulations to the winners from Bendu cha Chiefdom and all participants. Together, we are reclaiming Bonthe's lost glory.
