Today, I am proud to stand alongside my husband, His Excellency President Dr. Julius Maada Bio, as we witness the revival of the historic canoe race here in Bonthe, Sherbro Island. This cherished tradition, discontinued since 1964, returns as part of our commitment to restoring Sherbro cultural heritage and identity—a moment of national pride.

President Bio reignited the competition with seven teams, including representatives from neighboring chiefdoms and Bonthe Municipality. This revival celebrates Sherbro heritage, defined by our boats and fishing, while also boosting tourism, strengthening the local economy, and honoring our history.

Presenting trophies and prizes was deeply fulfilling. After nearly 60 years, the joy this event brought reaffirms our commitment to preserving our traditions. Congratulations to the winners from Bendu cha Chiefdom and all participants. Together, we are reclaiming Bonthe's lost glory.

Yesterday, my husband, His Excellency President Dr. Julius Maada Bio, and I had the pleasure of hosting the Annual Children's Christmas Party at the Presidential Lodge in Freetown. It was a joy to welcome hundreds of children from diverse communities to celebrate the festive season.

President Bio highlighted our family’s privilege in engaging closely with children from all backgrounds. We encouraged them to focus on their education and make the most of the Free Quality Education initiative introduced by his government. This season of giving reminds us that empowering our children is the greatest gift we can offer for a brighter future for Sierra Leone.

On behalf of my husband, I extend heartfelt condolences as we bid farewell and signed the book of condolences to the late Lansana Sheriff, popularly known as Steady Bongo.

Through his powerful music, Steady Bongo championed peace and national cohesion during tumultuous times, particularly during the civil war that plagued our nation. His ability to transform negativity into positivity resonated deeply with many, making him a true hero in our hearts.

As we reflect on his legacy, we are reminded that his spirit will continue to inspire future generations. May his soul rest in perfect peace.
