A mother had to choose between saving her son or saving five strangers.
A terrible flood swept through a small town one rainy night.
Rescue workers found a boat that could only carry five people to safety.
On one side were five children trapped on a rooftop.
On the other side was her only son.
The rescue team told her, “We only have time for one trip.”
The mother froze. Her heart told her to save her son.
But five other mothers were praying for their children too.
With tears streaming down her face, she whispered,
“Save the five children.”
The boat left.
She watched her son from a distance as the floodwaters rose.
Hours later, rescuers returned and found her son alive, clinging to a tree.
But she had no way of knowing that when she made her choice.
The town called her a hero.
Some called her heartless.
Others said no mother should ever choose strangers over her own child.
