When a teacher, whose job is to guide, correct, and nurture students, is publicly disrespected â and worse, supported by the public while being disrespected â it speaks volumes about where our values as a society are heading.
This isnât just about a single teacher or a single child. It's about the erosion of respect for authority, for discipline, and for the people who are sacrificing to shape the next generation. In Sierra Leone, like in many parts of the world, teachers have always held a place of honor in society. But now, with growing entitlement, misinformation on social media, and the glorification of disrespect, that dignity is under attack.
When teachers are afraid to discipline students, the classroom breaks down. And when the classroom breaks down, so does the entire educational system. Discipline is not abuse â itâs structure. Itâs love expressed through correction. Without it, we raise children who can't handle the real world, who resist boundaries, and who feel theyâre above guidance.
This is the perfect definition of moral decay. And the sad part is, many don't even realize it. They cheer loudest for what they would regret later.
We need to rebuild that culture of respect â starting at home, in the community, and on platforms like this...
