SLFA President Recognised for Outstanding Leadership

President of SLFA, Babadi Kamara, has been recognised for his outstanding leadership and notable contributions to the development of football in Sierra Leone within his first year in office.

President Babadi was honoured by the Leone Rock Premier League Board during its awards ceremony at Bintumani Hotel on Friday, in recognition of his leadership and the positive developments recorded in the country’s top tier competition under his administration.

Since assuming office, the SLFA boss has overseen a number of major interventions aimed at strengthening the football ecosystem.

Under his leadership, the Premier League secured US$180,000 in sponsorship from Leone Rock Metal Group, while the seed money for Premier League clubs has been increased to NLe 225,000 per club.

President Babadi Kamara has also supported the development of football infrastructure, including the construction of a 435-seater pavilion at the SLFA Football Academy.

In addition, he has secured a new Secretariat for the Association through the FIFA Forward Programme, an important step towards strengthening the institutional capacity of the SLFA.

Under his administration, all major league categories were successfully organised and played, indicating a commitment to ensuring continuity and broader participation across the domestic football structure.

The President has further expressed his commitment to expanding football infrastructure across the country, including the construction of artificial-turf pitches to provide players, clubs and communities with improved facilities for training and competition.

In recognition of these efforts, the SLFA President received a standing ovation and a thunderous round of applause from those present at the awards ceremony, as the Leone Rock Premier League Board acknowledged his contributions to the game.

The SLFA was also given an Institutional Excellence award.

🚨🇸🇱SLFA ANNOUNCES MORE SUPPORT FOR PREMIER LEAGUE CLUBS!

SLFA President Babadi Kamara has announced an increase in Premier League clubs’ seed money from NLe200,000 to NLe225,000 for the 2026/27 season, a 12.5% increase. ⚽💰

Referees will also see a major increase in their match fees, from NLe700 to NLe2,000.

The SLFA President also highlighted improvements in football administration, FIFA Connect, disciplinary standards, and plans for new artificial-turf facilities.

Yesterday was a very painful and unforgettable day for the people of Rokel community as we received the shocking news of the passing of one of our prominent young sons, Sheku A. Bangura (Accountant).

His sudden death came as a huge surprise, leaving family, friends, and the entire Rokel community in deep sorrow. Sheku was a young man full of promise, dedication, and a bright future ahead of him. His absence will surely create a great void in the hearts of many.

As we mourn this great loss, Rokel is also celebrating the remarkable achievement of another son of the community, Sheka Sesay (Mahrez), who has continued to raise the flag of Rokel high through football. The talented midfielder, who currently plays for Star Sports, has emerged as one of the outstanding midfielders from the just concluded Sierra Leone Premier League.

This moment reminds us that Rokel is a community blessed with exceptional young talents in different fields. While we bow our heads in grief for the loss of Sheku A. Bangura, we also stand proud and inspired by the achievements of Sheka Sesay (Mahrez), whose hard work, discipline, and dedication have brought honour to our community.

The story of Rokel is a story of resilience a community that mourns together, celebrates together, and continues to produce individuals who make an impact beyond its borders.

May the soul of Sheku A. Bangura rest in perfect peace, and may his family find comfort and strength during this difficult period. To Sheka Sesay (Mahrez), keep shining and continue making Rokel proud. Your success is the pride of an entire community.
