The Lawyers' Society Expresses immense concern over the passing of the Constitutional Amendment Bill by Parliament without meeting the express requirement in Section 108(2)(b) of the Constitution of Sierra Leone, Act No. 6 of 1991 which they say requires the votes of at least two-thirds of the total membership of Parliament. “Allowing a constitutional amendment to pass without the constitutionally required majority would set a dangerous precedent: it would mean that Parliament could amend the Constitution through a procedure the Constitution itself does not permit,” the Lawyers’ Society reiterates.

In his address to the nation on the Constitutional Amendment Bill, President Bio said that over the past years they (his government) have continued broad consultations with stakeholders across the country. “We have listened, considered, refined and presented this Bill as part of a constitutional reform process that crossed administrations, political parties and generations,” President Bio stated. Survey for the Expansion of both Masiaka-Makeni to Kabala Road and Masiaka-Bo to Kenema Road has begun by Pavifort. Abubakarr Kamara, Operations Manager for Pavifort Sierra Leone and Liberia explained that the survey is for an expansion of the roads to four lane which will open the provinces, minimize accident and make the road safe. “The project will take five to six years to be completed because there are threats of swamps and the construction of bridges.
