KOYA, Magbema Chiefdom Farmers under the Koya Kombra Network in Magbema Chiefdom have received assorted local farm tools to boost agricultural production this planting season.
The support package from Focus 1000 Kombra Network includes hoes, cutlasses, rakes, pickaxes, measuring tapes, shovels, and vegetable seeds. The intervention is being implemented by the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security with funding from the World Food Programme, WFP.
Focus 1000 Kambia Coordinator, Madam Isatu Kamara, said the tools are critical for farming activities, especially during planting. She explained that upon hearing about the project, Kombra Network applied and was successful.
“Kombra Network has been very active in agricultural activities, especially rice farming and vegetable growing across 5 communities in Tonko Limba, Gbinleh, and Magbema Chiefdoms. This support is meant to boost livelihood and promote nutrition, which is key to our health work in Kambia District and Sierra Leone,” Madam Kamara said.
She encouraged beneficiaries to take care of the tools and work hard to attract more support for other Kombra Network farmers in the district.
At the handover in Koya community, Kambia District Kombra Network Chairman, Reverend Augustine Samura Bangs, urged farmers to use the tools for their intended purpose to ensure a good harvest.
Community stakeholders and farmers described the donation as the first of its kind in Koya’s history. They pledged to maintain the tools and work hard for a successful farming season.
