It is with a heavy heart that we inform you of the passing of our dear friend, Theresa Sheriff, a new applicant for the SRN program. She left us yesterday, and her absence will be deeply felt within our university community. Theresa was a bright light, full of dreams and aspirations, and her spirit will forever remain in our hearts.

Let us take a moment to remember her and the joy she brought to our lives. We encourage everyone to come together during this difficult time to support one another.

*DEAN OF STUDENT'S FORMALLY PRESENTS SUG EXECUTIVE TO UNIVERSITY ADMINISTRATION*.

The dean of students at the Eastern Technical University of Sierra Leone *Mr.Mohamed D Swarray* has on Wednesday 23rd October 2024 formally presented the newly elected student union executive to the university administration during an event held at the office of the vice chancellor and Principal of the Eastern Technical University of Sierra Leone.

This event according to the dean of students *Mr.Mohamed D.Swarray* marks the commencement of a new leadership term with the goal of enhancing student representation and collaboration with the university.

He welcomed the new student union executive members and emphasized their role in bridging communication between the student body and the university administration.

He highlighted the significance of student leadership in fostering a thriving academic and social environment on campus.

As part of the presentation, *Mr.Mohamed D Swarray* provided brief biography of the SUG President *Jonathan Bakundu* acknowledging his contributions and commitment to student affairs.

The registrar *Mr.John Juana* congratulated the new executives and reaffirms the university’s support for student-led initiatives.

He emphasized the administration's commitment to maintaining open communication channels with the student union and expressed enthusiasm for the collaborative work ahead.

He said the occasion underscores the mutual respect between the student body and university leadership ensuring that student concerns are acknowledged at the highest levels of decision-making.

The vice chancellor and Principal *Prof.Mohamed T.Lahai* encouraged the president and executive to concentrate on their academic work and ignore any form of cultism or anti student activities that may undermine their academic performance on campus.

The newly appointed student union President *Jonathan Bakundu* whilst addressing the university administration outlined the key priorities of the student union for the upcoming academic year.

He disclosed plans to improve student welfare, promote equality and inclusion and enhance the overall student experience through events and programs.

The event concluded with a photo session of the student union executive with the university administration symbolizing the start of a new partnership aimed at advancing student interests on campus.

Dear Hon. Minister,

Subject: Request for Review of Fees at Eastern Technical University for SLG Beneficiaries

I am writing on behalf of the students of Eastern Technical University to bring to your attention an issue that is causing significant concern among those of us who are beneficiaries of the Sierra Leone Government (SLG) grants.

We, the SLG-sponsored students, are deeply concerned about the fees being imposed on us, despite being on government grants that are supposed to alleviate the financial burden of our education. Currently, each student is required to pay Le 2,979 as fees, an amount that is placing a strain on us, particularly as we believe we should be exempt from these costs under the terms of the SLG program.

We are grateful for the government's support in granting us these scholarships, but we feel that the current fee structure is not aligned with the intended purpose of the grant, which is to provide financial relief. We respectfully request that the Ministry look into this matter and take the necessary steps to address our concerns. It is our hope that a review will lead to a resolution that ensures SLG-sponsored students are not burdened with additional fees.

We trust in your leadership and understanding to ensure that all students, especially those receiving government grants, can continue their education without undue financial hardship.
