Brima Sorie Turay is a distinguished finance professional, sports administrator, and community development advocate from Kamakwie, Sierra Leone. Born and raised in Kamakwie, he completed his primary and secondary education in the township, where his formative years were shaped by discipline, community values, and early exposure to leadership. In 2008, driven by ambition and a desire for broader opportunities, he relocated to Freetown to further his education and professional development, laying the foundation for a career that blends corporate excellence, sports administration, and social impact.
In 2011, Turay graduated from the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Sierra Leone (ICASL) with a Certified Accounting Technician (CAT) qualification. Demonstrating a strong commitment to continuous professional growth, he is currently pursuing the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) qualification, alongside a Bachelor of Science (Honours) degree in Applied Accounting from Oxford Brookes University. These academic pursuits reflect his dedication to achieving global accounting standards and strengthening his expertise in finance, management, and governance.
Turay began his professional career at Leone Resources Ltd, where he served as an accountant from 2011 to 2015, gaining valuable experience in financial management and corporate operations. He later transitioned into the non-profit sector, working with We Yone Child Foundation between 2016 and 2017, before joining BBC Media Action as a finance officer. In 2018, he joined Bai-Suba Resort Ltd in Lunsar as Resort and Finance Manager, a role he held until 2022. In 2023, he joined Leone Rock Metal Group as an administrative officer and, through diligence and competence, rose to the position of Senior Administrative Supervisor.
Beyond his corporate career, Turay is widely recognized for his passion and contributions to football administration. This passion was nurtured during his upbringing under the mentorship of his late uncle, a respected football player and team captain in Kamakwie. Motivated to empower young people and develop grassroots football, he founded Sella Queens Football Club, a female team, and Sella Stars Football Club, a men’s Division Two side, serving as Chief Executive Officer for both clubs. In recognition of his dedication and impact, he was appointed Finance Officer of the Northwest Region Football Association in 2020, where he supported clubs, referees, and football development through donations and philanthropic initiatives. His continued commitment led to his appointment as a Board Member of the Sierra Leone Premier League for the 2024/2025 and 2025/2026 seasons by the Executive Committee of the Sierra Leone Football Association (SLFA), where he served as Head of Media and Head of the Coordinating Committees respectively. Following the recent Karene District Football Association elections, he now serves as Secretary General of the district football association.
In addition to sports, Turay has made significant contributions to community development through Sella Development for Education and Progress (SeDEP), a community-based organization formed by descendants of Sella Limba Chiefdom to give back to their homeland. Rising through the ranks from Deputy Organising Secretary to the longest-serving Welfare Officer, he currently serves as the Chief Executive Officer of SeDEP. Under his leadership, the organization has spearheaded impactful initiatives, including the establishment of a blood bank at Kamakwie Wesleyan Hospital, the provision of scholarships, organization of quiz and debate competitions, and the distribution of learning materials to school-going pupils. Through his professional achievements, visionary leadership, and unwavering commitment to service, Brima Sorie Turay stands as a respected figure in corporate circles, sports administration, and community development across Sierra Leone
