At the 8th Bai Bureh Service Delivery Awards, I had the privilege to present our 1st University Graduate from the Bai Bureh Heritage Foundation Student Baskit Fund for Education Empowerment. Through our foundation’s support, she graduated with a BSc in Accounting & Finance from the Ernest Bai Koroma University of Science and Technology. The Port Loko Student Baskit Fund for Education Empowerment was launched in year 2021 to empower young people to acquire higher education so they can be self-reliant and contribute meaningfully to the overall development of their respective communities and the nation as a whole. Today, Fatmata is not only a graduate but a staff member at the Sierra Leone Commercial Bank, an employment she gained just after taking her final university examination. This is a clear manifestation of the fact that, indeed, a little act of kindness may change someone's life forever. Our appreciation to everyone who has contributed to our Baskit Fund journey. May Allah bless you abundantly.

Youth Capacity Building: Bai Bureh Heritage Foundation and Fruitful Healthcare Certify Fifty (50) High School Leavers in Port Loko

Bai Bureh Heritage Foundation, with support from Fruitful Healthcare, has successfully certified fifty (50) high school leavers under its 5th Cohort Post-Secondary Internship Program, marking another significant milestone in youth empowerment and skills development. The certification ceremony celebrated the completion of a 16-week free intensive capacity-building training designed to prepare young people for life after secondary school through structured learning, practical exposure, and personal development. The initiative continues to demonstrate a strong commitment to nurturing responsible, skilled, and civic-minded young citizens.

Throughout the 16-week period, interns benefited from a well-structured curriculum focused on career experience, exposure, and development. The program created a dynamic environment that allowed participants to interact directly with senior changemakers from various sectors, offering them valuable mentorship and real-world insights. Educational visits to places of importance further enriched the learning experience, helping interns to better understand governance structures, public institutions, and professional work environments.

Participants also received comprehensive lectures on a wide range of critical topics, including civic responsibility, corruption awareness, social media usage, social development, office procedures, healthcare systems, networking, and the dangers of drug abuse. These sessions were aimed at building ethical awareness, professionalism, and social responsibility among the interns, equipping them with the knowledge required to navigate modern workplaces and society with confidence and integrity. In addition to theoretical knowledge, the interns were trained in basic computer skills, an essential component of today’s digital workplace. This practical training enhanced their ability to use computers for documentation, communication, and general office operations, significantly improving their employability and readiness for further education or entry into the workforce.

The certification ceremony was hosted on Saturday, 13th December, at the Port Loko District Council Conference Hall, alongside the Bai Bureh Service Delivery Awards 2025. The management of the Bai Bureh Heritage Foundation extends its profound appreciation to the CEO of Fruitful Healthcare for generously providing the funding that made the program possible, as well as to all facilitators, and contributors whose dedication and support ensured the success of the 5th cohort Post-Secondary Internship Program.
