The worldโs largest hospital ship, Global Mercy, is back in Sierra Leone after a short maintenance break in Spain. For the next 10 months, Mercy Ships will work alongside national and local health authorities to offer free, life-changing surgeries and train local healthcare professionals.
Health Minister Dr. Austin Demby praised the partnership, noting that it not only provides much-needed medical services but also equips Sierra Leoneans with lasting skills in patient care and surgery โ a legacy that will benefit the nation for years.
Since 2023, Global Mercy has already carried out over 3,630 free surgeries for more than 3,240 people, while also strengthening the countryโs surgical systems through training and advocacy programs.
