Minister Kenyeh Barlay bids farewell to 2026 KOICA scholars

Follow KOICA Alumni Association in Sierra Leone

Minister of Planning and Economic Development, Kenyeh Barlay, has officially sent off Adama Hawa Bah and Naomi Kadiatu Sesay, beneficiaries of the KOICA scholarship to South Korea.

The two will pursue postgraduate studies in Gender Equality and Tax & Fiscal Policy under the fully funded programme. In the farewell meeting held on Friday, 14th August 2028, Minister Barlay encouraged them to remain focused, represent Sierra Leone with pride, and return with knowledge to support national development.

The Government of Sierra Leone has handed over 20,000 bags of locally produced rice for the 2026/27 Home-Grown School Feeding Programme, reaffirming its commitment to the Feed Salone initiative.
The rice, valued at NLe22 million (about US$1 million), will provide nutritious meals for over 250,000 schoolchildren across five districts while creating a reliable market for local farmers and boosting rural incomes.
Officials say the initiative strengthens national food security, supports Sierra Leonean farmers, and improves children's education through better nutrition and increased school attendance.
