Repost Five countries, two projects, 1 Standard 🌍🎣
For the past four years the has joined forces with the MAVA Foundation & regional partners to run two projects, PPAMP & LEAD, aimed at paving the way for sustainable fishing in West Africa.
Operating across five countries – Mauritania, Senegal, The Gambia, Cape Verde and Guinea-Bissau – both projects aim to help fisheries improve their environmental performance and to create a pool of regional experts to advise on fisheries and coastal management.
1️⃣ The ‘Sustainable Exploitation of Small Pelagics in MPAs and other Protected Areas in West Africa’ (PPAMP) project helps reduce overexploitation of four small pelagic fisheries in marine protected areas.
2️⃣ The ‘Leading West African Fisheries toward Sustainable Fishing Practices’ (LEAD) project is designed to understand the financial obstacles that prevent West African fisheries from improving their management practices.
They use the MSC Fisheries Standard and tools following the Pathway to Sustainability approach as a guide to drive measurable improvements in regional fisheries management and governance, as well as in broader ocean health.
