The Southwest Trade & Investment Forum, held today in Baidoa, concluded with strong participation from business leaders, government officials, and development partners committed to unlocking the regionโ€™s economic potential.

Hosted by Somali Business, in collaboration with the Southwest Chamber of Commerce & Industry and Ministry of Commerce and Industry SW-State of Somalia, the forum provided a practical, solutions-oriented platform to address the core drivers of the business and investment climate.

Discussions focused on trade logistics, land and property rights, access to finance, and Southwest Stateโ€™s competitiveness within Somaliaโ€™s broader commercial landscape.

Participants highlighted both the resilience of the private sector and the persistent constraints facing businesses, including unpredictable trade costs and limited access to affordable credit. The forum also emphasized the strategic importance of Baidoa as a gateway linking Mogadishu, the Ethiopian borderlands, and the agricultural economies of Bay and Bakool.

Through panel discussions and open dialogue, stakeholders identified clear, actionable priorities to improve the enabling environment for investment and private sector growth. These insights will inform a forthcoming post-forum report, a private sector priority matrix, and a series of Somali Business publications.
