1. Create a New Composition
Hit "New File" or go to Composition > New Composition from the top menu and fill out the following:
Name: Give your composition a name (e.g., "IntroAnimation")
Preset: Choose something like "HDTV 1080 25" (1920x1080, 25 fps)
Duration: Choose the duration (e.g., 10 seconds)
Click OK

2. Importing Assets (Images, Videos, etc.)
Go to File > Import > File and select your image, logo or video file.
Or just drag and drop your assets into the project panel.

3. Adding Assets to the Timeline
You can drag the imported asset from the Project panel into the Timeline panel or the Composition window.

4. Animating Something (Position Example)
Click on the asset in the timeline.
Press P to show the Position property.
Press the stopwatch to create a keyframe.
Move the timeline cursor forward a few seconds.
Change the position value (either by dragging the layer itself or changing the x and y numbers).
After Effects will create an animated keyframe between the positions!

5. Preview Your Animation
Press the spacebar to preview your animation.
Make sure that your work area covers the section you want to preview.

6. Exporting Your Video
Go to File > Export > Add to Render Queue
Choose your movie type and destination.
Click Render.
