๐ทโ๐โ๐๐, ๐๐๐๐๐๐ โ ๐ฝ๐ข๐๐ฆ 15, 2025 โ Armed clashes broke out today in the town of Dhahar, located in the Sanaag region, between Puntland security forces and local residents reportedly supporting the newly emerging SSC-Khaatumo administration in LasโAnod, Sool region.
The confrontation follows rising political tension in the area as SSC-Khaatumo, a local authority claiming autonomy from both Somaliland and Puntland, began to establish administrative structures and initiate clan-based power-sharing agreements across the Eastern regions of Sool, Sanaag, and Buuhodle.
Eyewitnesses from Dhahar report gunfire and roadblocks, with both sides blaming each other for initiating the conflict. Casualties remain unconfirmed, and the situation is described as tense but fluid.
The move by SSC-Khaatumo to consolidate control comes just months after fierce fighting in LasโAnod, where local leaders and residents rejected Somalilandโs rule, declaring allegiance to a self-governing administration aimed at representing the regionโs clans.
