The President of Somaliland, H.E. Abdirahman Mohamed Abdullahi (Cirro), has unveiled his new cabinet comprising 28 ministers, signaling a fresh approach to governance and addressing pressing national issues.
One of the significant changes in the new cabinet is the division of the former Ministry of Interior into two separate ministries:

• Ministry of Internal Security: Focusing on maintaining law and order.
• Ministry of Regional Development and Local Governments. Tasked with enhancing regional governance and local governments.

This restructuring aims to improve focus and efficiency in addressing both security and regional development challenges.

Additionally, for the first time since Somaliland's foundation, communities that previously lacked representation have been granted full ministerial positions, a move aimed at fostering greater inclusivity and equity in the government.

Today, Somaliland achieved a significant milestone with a peaceful transfer of power following its November 13, 2024 presidential elections. Outgoing President Muse Bihi Abdi congratulated the new president elected Abdirahman Mohamed Abdillaahi (Cirro), pledging full support for a smooth transition.
Cabdiraxmaan Cirro a former Speaker of Somaliland's Parliament, secured over 60% of the vote in a contest hailed as a model of democratic principles despite earlier delays in the electoral process.

The election, monitored by international and regional observers, underscores Somaliland's commitment to democratic governance. Leaders from around the world, praised the orderly process and the peaceful handover.
This marks a continued strengthening of Somaliland's reputation for political stability in the Horn of Africa

The government of Somaliland, together with the national councils of the House of Elders and the House of Representatives, said that they are taking steps to consult with all the communities in the Somaliland region on the issue of Lasaanood.

President Muse Bihi Abdi, who was the leader, accused terrorists of being behind the killings in Lasanood. The president said that people from neighboring countries who want to create discord among the citizens of Somaliland are not to be believed.

The president specifically blamed MP Farah Moalim, who is a member of the Kenyan Parliament, who used to campaign for the unity of Somaliland, but now it seems that his politics are going sideways day by day.

The president asked the governments of Kenya and Ethiopia to take action against their citizens who want to interfere in Somaliland's internal affairs.

Ethiopia loses 19 percent stake of Berbera Port

Ethiopia no longer holds 19 percent stake in the Port of Berbera, the government of Somaliland said. It is reversal of the agreement made in 2017 between Ethiopia, DP World and the Somaliland Port Authority.

Though Ethiopia was offered to buy the stake, it failed to utilize the opportunity since it did not fulfill some of the conditions required to complete the deal, an official of Somaliland said.

DP World was the majority shareholder in the port, with 51 percent share based on the deal signed in 2017, and the share of Somaliland being 30 percent. Ethiopia's proposed 19 percent share transferred to DP World and the government of Somaliland. Now the former owns 65 percent of the port, whereas the remaining is under the ownership of the latter.

"Ethiopia failed to meet the conditions needs to acquire the stakes before the deadline. So it has no stake now, but it needs to noted that ownership does not matter," said Saad Ali Shire, Minister of Finance.
