In Aweil, Northern Bahr el Ghazal – Thirty youth leaders recently completed a two-day peacebuilding workshop, aimed at fostering peaceful coexistence within their communities.
The workshop, held between Tuesday- Wednesday, this week brought together young people from various groups across the state.
Participants focused on crucial topics such as conflict resolution, countering hate speech, human rights in peacebuilding, leadership, and advocacy skills.
The event was a collaborative effort by the state's Ministry of Peace Building and the Ministry of Culture, Youth, and Sport, with support from the National Ministry of Peace Building.
Hope Africa Organization, in partnership with UNESCO, facilitated the training.
George Atem, the Youth Representative in Northern Bahr el Ghazal State, spoke to Akol Yam FM about the initiative.
Atem quote” It's good that we, the youth, have been trained. It is our task to go back to our brothers and sisters and tell them there is nothing to gain from conflict. It's our responsibility to go to churches, dancing places, and football grounds to declare that we, the youth, are ambassadors for peace”
The workshop's primary goal is to equip youth leaders with the necessary skills and knowledge to promote peaceful coexistence within their respective communities.
