Nine South Sudanese doctors visiting South Korea through the Lee Tae-seok Foundation were amazed by the country's advanced medical infrastructure, making them express unreal claims about the situation back home.
Some of them claimed that they have never worn surgical gloves throughout their lives in South Sudan.
While highlighting South Sudan's struggling healthcare system is necessary, such claims are never close to any reality. Completing six or more years of medical school and an internship without ever using surgical gloves points to an individual issue rather than a systemic problem.
Their accounts were published in The Korea Times, and the doctors are scheduled to fly back to South Sudan tomorrow.
