PRESIDENT KIIR PRESIDES OVER THE SWARING-IN OF SIX NEW SUPREME COURT JUSTICES TO ENHANCE JUDICIAL INDEPENDENCE
JUBA, JULY 22, 2025—On Tuesday, President Salva Kiir Mayardit officiated the swearing-in ceremony for six newly appointed Justices of the Supreme Court, assigning them the crucial task of fortifying an independent judiciary that aligns with the national agenda for peace and stability.
While addressing attendees at the State House, President Kiir highlighted that this appointment transcends a mere promotion; it represents a renewed commitment to the principles of justice and trust. He urged the new Justices to extend their roles beyond mere legal interpretation, encouraging them to become champions of fairness, equality, and the rights of the populace.
“Their conduct,” the President remarked, “should embody the dignity and integrity associated with the office they now occupy.”
President Kiir reiterated his administration’s dedication to bolstering the judiciary, ensuring it operates effectively, independently, and in service to the citizens.
Chief Justice Dr. Benjamin Baak Deng also spoke to the assembly, echoing the President’s call for judicial integrity. The Chief Justice committed to prioritizing the resolution of the backlog of court cases, emphasizing that “justice delayed is justice denied.”
