Today in Uganda, during the swearing-in ceremony of H.E. Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, President of the Republic of Uganda, one man caught the attention of many people present and even viewers around the world, Lt. Col. Machol Lual Akok, the bodyguard of H.E. Salva Kiir Mayardit, President of the Republic of South Sudan.

Lt. Col. Machol Lual Akok was on duty, fully committed to ensuring that President Kiir remained safe and secure throughout the ceremony. In the line of duty, his suit was torn while protecting and escorting his leader.

What stood out most was his discipline and dedication. Even as some people attempted to distract him by pointing out that his suit had been torn, he remained focused on his responsibility. He did not lose concentration or composure. His attention remained on the safety of the President.

His mission was successfully accomplished when President Kiir safely reached the seating area and joined fellow Heads of State and other distinguished leaders.

Such loyalty, professionalism, sacrifice, and commitment to duty deserve recognition and honor. Men like Lt. Col. Machol Lual Mayuol represents courage, discipline, and selfless service to the nation.

Today, South Sudan bid farewell to one of its most respected legal minds, the late Hon. Justice Ambrose Riny Thiik, former Chief Justice of the Republic of South Sudan.

His Excellency Salva Kiir Mayardit led the official farewell ceremony at Juba International Airport before the body of the late Chief Justice was flown to Luonyaker in Gogrial East County, Warrap State, where he will be laid to rest.

Justice Ambrose Riny Thiik dedicated his life to the service of justice, the rule of law, and the strengthening of South Sudan’s judicial system. His wisdom, integrity, and commitment to fairness earned him immense respect across the country.

As the nation mourns his passing, we honor his remarkable legacy and the invaluable contributions he made to our young nation.

May his soul rest in eternal peace, and may his family, friends, and colleagues find strength and comfort during this difficult time.
