H.E. Gola Boyoi Gola, Chief Administrator of Greater Pibor Administrative Area, alongside Hon. David Yau Yau, Deputy Minister of Information, Communication Technology and Postal Services, dedicated their weekend to farm on the outskirts of Pibor town.
The two leaders rolled up their sleeves and personally engaged in tilling the land, preparing thier farms for the upcoming planting season.
Speaking to the media H.E. Gola Boyoi Gola emphasized that despite South Sudanโs abundant fertile land, the country remains heavily dependent on food aid.
Hon. David Yau Yau echoed this message, criticizing the over-dependency on food aid โThe culture of reliance on food aid must be abolished. We need to empower our people to produce their own food,โ he urged.
The Chief Administrator remarked, โIf Gola Boyoi and General Yau Yau can do it, why not you?โ calling on the community to proactively cultivate their farms.
He also pointed out that โThe food aid we receive from WFP and other humanitarian agencies is produced by people just like us.โ Emphasizing on the necessity for self-reliance on local produce.
General David Yau Yau added, โMany youth spend their days playing dominoes and card games from sunrise to sunset, only to ask for food when they return home. Where do they expect food to come from? The land is ready for us. Letโs take the time to farm.โ
H.E. Gola Boyoi Gola and Hon. David Yau Yau call on all citizens to embrace agriculture with a motto
"Eat what we produce, not to rely on food aid."
