: Christ the King Parish Nabagu Marks All Souls Day with Prayers for the Departed

The Catholic faithful of Christ the King Parish in Nabagu, under the Diocese of Tombura-Yambio, joined the universal Church on Sunday in the observance of All Souls Day, offering a solemn Mass and prayers for departed loved ones.

The day’s commemoration began with an early morning Eucharistic celebration led by the parish clergy. Parishioners gathered at the parish cemetery to pray for the souls of the faithful departed, reflecting on the Christian hope of eternal life.

Moments of silence and devotion marked the ceremony as the congregation paid tribute to those who, in the words of Scripture, “have fallen asleep in the Lord.”

All Souls Day, celebrated annually on November 2, holds deep significance in the Catholic tradition. It is a time dedicated to praying for the dead and expressing the enduring belief that love, faith, and spiritual connection continue beyond death.

The event concluded with the blessing of graves, a symbolic act of unity, hope, and remembrance that brought the community together in shared faith and compassion.

Palotaka: A Forgotten Historic Site Awaits Recognition

Palotaka, once a vibrant center of learning and faith in South Sudan, remains largely overlooked by authorities and well-wishers despite its deep historical value.

Palotaka is located in Magwi County, Eastern Equatoria State.

In the 1970s, Palotaka Elementary and Secondary School stood as a cornerstone of education and community life, shaping the minds and spirits of many South Sudanese who were displaced by war. Today, the site lies mostly abandoned, its once-proud legacy fading into memory.

This year, the local community and the Catholic Church are joining forces to celebrate Palotaka’s Centenary, marking 100 years since its founding. The event is not only a tribute to the institution’s storied past but also a call to action: to restore and preserve one of South Sudan’s most important educational and spiritual landmarks.

Media advocacy groups have launched new equipment to support the work of journalists in South Sudan.
AMDISS, UJOSS, and NPC, with support from Reporters Without Borders, have purchased media equipment — including cameras, recorders, and phones — to be used by journalists through a loan program.

According to AMDISS, the initiative aims to make the work of journalists easier, particularly for those who lack the resources to purchase their own equipment.
