Bola Tinubu, a prominent political figure in Nigeria, has been inaugurated as the new President of Nigeria, succeeding Muhammadu Buhari, who stepped down after two terms in office. Tinubu, 71, takes over as Africa’s most populous nation faces significant economic and security challenges. In his inaugural speech, Tinubu pledged to perform his duties in accordance with the constitution.
The ceremony was attended by foreign leaders and representatives from various countries. Kashim Shettima was also sworn in as Vice President, and the ruling party duo were declared winners of the February 25 election. The opposition leader and third-placed candidate are currently contesting the results in court, alleging fraud. Tinubu, who was dubbed a “political godfather,” campaigned on his experience as Lagos governor from 1999 to 2007, which supporters say modernised Lagos, Nigeria’s business hub. However, he also faces corruption allegations and health issues.
