Economist Proposes Introduction of SSP 10,000 and 50,000 Banknotes

Dr. Abraham Maliet Mamer, a renowned economic expert, has proposed the introduction of SSP 10,000 and SSP 50,000 banknotes to help address South Sudan’s current liquidity challenges.

Dr. Maliet argues that, similar to practices in neighboring countries, issuing higher-denomination notes would ease the severe cash shortages and make it easier for individuals and businesses to access and transact large sums of money.

"Due to the shortage of cash in the market, withdrawing large amounts from one’s account has become increasingly difficult," he explained.

SSRA announce Over SSP 900 Billion in Non-Oil Revenue for 2024/2025

The South Sudan Revenue Authority (SSRA) has announced a record-breaking non-oil revenue collection for the 2024/2025 financial year, surpassing SSP 984.4 billion.

Speaking during the official opening of the Revenue Institute in Juba, Hon. Simon Akuei, Commissioner General of the SSRA, highlighted the significant growth in revenue since 2017.

"Collection of non-oil revenue has increased from SSP 700 million in the 2017–2018 financial year to over SSP 984.4 billion in the fiscal year 2024–2025," he stated.

This marks a major milestone in the country’s efforts to diversify its revenue sources beyond oil.
