BREAKING NEWS: 21 FEARED DEAD IN MAMBOLEO ROAD CRASH INVOLVING AIC NAKI HIGH SCHOOL BUS

Kisumu, Kenya – Friday, August 8, 2025

Tragedy has struck in Kisumu after a bus belonging to AIC Naki High School, ferrying mourners from a funeral, was involved in a deadly crash at the Mamboleo Coptic Roundabout.

At least 21 people are feared dead after the bus reportedly lost control and rammed into other vehicles before overturning. Eyewitnesses have described the accident scene as devastating, with victims trapped in the mangled wreckage.

Emergency responders, including the Kenya Red Cross, Kisumu County disaster teams, and police, are on site conducting rescue operations. Survivors have been rushed to Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital with serious injuries.

Kisumu County Police Commander has confirmed the death toll stands at 21, with several others in critical condition. “We are working tirelessly to rescue anyone who might still be trapped,” he said.

Preliminary reports point to possible mechanical failure, though speeding has not been ruled out. The accident has caused heavy traffic along the Kisumu–Kakamega road as authorities secure the area.

Families of the victims are urged to remain calm and await official identification and updates from relevant agencies.

Volunteer Communications Specialist in the Office of the Vice President for Economic Cluster?

A former MP appointed through the Peace Agreement — who was removed from parliament following the return of Dr. Riek Machar and the subsequent purge of Taban Deng Gai’s team — has left South Sudanese Facebook users both amused and puzzled after seemingly creating a position for himself that doesn’t officially exist.

The former lawmaker, Angok — a one-time boxer turned politician — publicly declared himself as a Volunteer Communications Specialist in the Office of the Vice President for the Economic Cluster. His announcement raised eyebrows, particularly given that he had previously distanced himself from both parliament and the country, only resurfacing when someone from his home area rose to a position of power.

Critics were quick to point out that the Office of the Vice President already has an official communications team. “Is this mtu wetu politics?” asked one Facebook user, using the Swahili phrase meaning “our person” — suggesting Angok’s self-appointment may be driven by ethnic or regional favoritism.

Others questioned why Angok appeared to bypass formal procedures and ignore the existing communication structure in the Vice President’s office. “Does he think he’s better than the official communications team just because he’s from the big man’s backyard?” another user wrote.
