The Federation of South Sudan Medical Students’ Association (FSSMSA) has officially been recognized as a candidate member of the International Federation of Medical Students’ Associations (IFMSA), the world’s largest network of medical students.
Founded in 1951, IFMSA brings together over 130 national member organizations from more than 100 countries across five regions: Africa, Asia-Pacific, the Americas, Europe, and the Eastern Mediterranean. The federation works to advance global healthcare through collaboration, advocacy, and capacity building.
The decision to admit FSSMSA as a candidate member was made during the 74th IFMSA General Assembly held in Ioannina, Greece. FSSMSA was represented by Daniel Bith Dhieu, the head of delegation and president, along with Kelvin Tach, vice president for administration and finance.
This milestone paves the way for South Sudanese medical students to benefit from international opportunities, including bilateral and unilateral exchange programs, capacity-building workshops, research initiatives, and more.
