SSPDF READY TO RECEIVE SALARY, SAYS SPOKEMAN L*L

The Spokesperson of South Sudan People’s Defence Forces (SSPDF), Maj Gen. L*l Ruai, said the army is ready to receive the salaries after the government increased the pay.

He said the increment, which he said surpassed the 400 per cent salary raise earlier rejected by the army, would mean that a private soldier receives SSP39,000 up from the initial SSP13,000.

Last week, the Minister of Finance and Planning, Dr. Bak Barnaba, said the delay in paying the civil servants’ salaries was due to planned adjustments and the plan to install biometrics in all the institutions across the country.

Speaking to The City Review on Tuesday, Ruai said the recent increment in the salary would slightly meet up with the welfare of the army.

“We have not yet received the salaries; we are still waiting for it. The increment of the salary by 17 per cent has surpassed the 400 per cent salary increment. So, this will at least meet our welfare,” Ruai said.

He said the army is expecting to receive two months’ salary, adding that a private soldier who used to earn SSP2600 will afford to buy something in the market for his family.

“The private soldiers used to get SSP 2600, and this cannot sustain them. We know the salary increment will not change anything but it will at least somehow be better as are waiting for the proposed 600 per cent after five months’ time,” he said.
