Former Tonj North Commissioner Slams Lou Community Violence, Calls for Peace and Tournament Suspension
Date: Monday, May 11, 2026
Subject: Condemnation of Violence
I strongly condemn the violent clashes that occurred yesterday, May 10, at the Munuki Football Ground and today, May 11, in the Juba Eden residential area, involving youths from the Lou community. These incidents have resulted in at least six injuries, with one person critically hurt.
My heartfelt wishes for a speedy recovery go out to all the victims.
I urge the supporters of Lou Mawien and Lou Ariik involved in this conflict to immediately cease hostilities and engage in peaceful negotiations to resolve their differences. It's crucial to prioritize the reputation and well-being of our beloved community.
I also call upon youth leaders on both sides to reaffirm their commitment to maintaining local peace and restoring community order. The authorities must investigate these incidents thoroughly and hold those responsible accountable.
To my brothers and sisters of the Lou community, let's remember that differences can only be resolved through peaceful means, not violence.
Furthermore, I request the Tonj North Peace Tournament Organizing Committee to suspend teams from the Lou community from participating in the tournament, allowing teams from other peaceful communities to continue.
Sincerely,
Hon. Mawen Chiliu Akech Mawen
Former County Commissioner, Tonj North
