SPLM to investigate Achuei Deng Ajiing for naming beauty pageant after the party

SPLM Secretary General Peter Lam Both has announced that the party’s legal affairs department and legal advisor will launch an investigation into how the party’s name ended up being used in the branding of a beauty pageant by a musician.

In a popular WhatsApp forum, Peter Lam Both responded to a question regarding the issue, stating, “The SPLM Secretariat for Legal Affairs and SPLM Legal Advisor will investigate how the name of the party is used by a commercial entity which has no connection whatsoever with the party.”

This announcement follows a statement made by singer Achuei Deng Ajiing on Friday morning, in which she revealed that she had established the “SPLM Beauty Pageant” under her company, ADA Enterprises Company Limited. The news has sparked mixed reactions on South Sudanese social media platforms, with many mocking the singer for associating a political party’s name with a beauty pageant. Some critics labeled the move as a sycophantic attempt to misappropriate party funds and national resources.

On Friday morning, Achuei Deng Ajiing made headlines by announcing that she had launched the “SPLM Beauty Pageant” under ADA Enterprises Co. Ltd. According to the singer, the first edition of the pageant will be held on Valentine’s Day, February 14, 2025, at Freedom Hall in Juba.

In her statement, Achuei expressed her gratitude to the SPLM party for its support and cooperation during the registration process for the beauty pageant. She also mentioned that the registration process for models would soon be announced.

With the SPLM now investigating the use of its name, the future of the beauty pageant remains uncertain.

Vice President in charge of infrastructure, Taban Deng G*i has approved more than 28 million US dollars for the operation of Airspace Control Centre facilities.

The money will be used to improve the management of the country’s three radars in Juba, Malaka, and Wau.

The proposal was presented by the Minister of Transport, Madut Biar during a cluster meeting yesterday.

After the meeting, Minister Biar spoke on SSBC television about the importance of the improvements to the country.

“The airspace comprises of the three radars in Juba, Wau, and Malakal with another three VHF that is very high-frequency centers in Kapoeta, Raja and Bor," said Minister Biar, "The cluster approved the amount requested and passed it to cabinet for consideration.”

The meeting also approved proposals from the minister of Roads and Bridges, Simon Mijok Mijak, to upgrade the Juba-Rajaf-Lobonok road to tarmac and make road adjustments in Nimule Town to decongest the town and ease the movement of people and goods.
