PRESIDENT KIIR DIRECTS RESUMPTION OF J1 PROJECT, SETS SEPTEMBER 2027 COMPLETION TARGET
JUBA, APRIL 1, 2026 — His Excellency President Salva Kiir Mayardit has ordered the immediate resumption of the J1 construction project in Juba, marking a renewed government push to modernize South Sudan’s administrative infrastructure. The directive, issued following a high-level meeting with the project’s Oversight Committee, brings an end to an almost two years delay and sets a firm completion target of September 2027.
To mark the restart, a delegation of senior officials, including Hon. Marik Nanga Marik, Chief Administrator in the Ministry of Presidential Affairs, and Hon. James Deng Wal, Executive Director in the Office of the President, inspected the site. They confirmed that the project has entered an accelerated phase.
Speaking during the visit, Hon. Marik Nanga Marik described the project as a symbol of national resilience, noting that it will deliver a modern, secure facility aligned with the country’s governance needs. Hon. James Deng Wal emphasized that the President has directed that work must continue without interruption until completion.
The project is being implemented by RAM Civil Engineering and Consultants, with initial activities already underway, including site clearing and material mobilization. Company representatives reaffirmed their commitment to meeting the timeline and maintaining quality standards.
Once completed, the J1 facility is expected to stand as a landmark project, reflecting South Sudan’s long-term vision for stronger institutions, improved governance, and modern infrastructure that supports national development.
