The Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation, in partnership with the United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS), has distributed 1,351 fishing nets to vulnerable households in Lakes and Jonglei States.

“Peace agreement gives government legitimacy, amendment may weaken it” – Maj. Gen.

Speaking during the CTSAMVM meeting, Maj. Gen. Bior Leek Kuareng, Senior Representative
of Former Detainees at CTSAMVM Techical committee, cautioned against amendments to the
peace agreement, saying the agreement is the foundation of the government’s legitimacy.
“The agreement is what gave the government legitimacy to exist, but when you amend what
gives the legitimacy, that legitimacy may fall,” he said.
Kuareng urged cabinets advisers around the President to fully consider the implications of any
changes and questioned why regional and international actors, including IGAD and the
international community, had not raised concerns.
He also appealed to South Sudanese leaders and to safeguard peace and avoid actions that could
return the country to conflict.
