There are certain situations in society that many people choose to remain silent about, not because they support them, but because they fear criticism or feel their voices will not matter.
Recently, I witnessed a case on social media of an old man marrying a very young girl. At first, I hesitated to speak about it, but the more I reflected on it, the more I realized silence would only normalize a practice that carries painful consequences for young girls and the future of society.
Marriage should be built on maturity, understanding, consent, and equal responsibility. When a young girl is married to an elderly man, there is often a huge imbalance in age, power, and decision-making.
Many young girls are forced to abandon their education, dreams, and personal growth before they even discover who they are. Instead of enjoying their youth and building their future, they are pushed into responsibilities they are emotionally and mentally unprepared for.
Such marriages can also expose young girls to health complications, emotional suffering, depression, and isolation. In many cases, they are denied the freedom to make choices about their own lives.
What may appear as a cultural or family arrangement can silently destroy confidence, happiness, and opportunities that could have changed their lives for the better.
A society that protects its daughters protects its future.
Young girls deserve education, guidance, safety, and the opportunity to grow into adulthood before entering marriage.
Traditions should never be used to justify practices that harm the well-being, dignity, and future of children.
Speaking against such situations is not disrespect toward culture; it is concern for humanity, justice, and the next generation.
