Police Vehicle Crash on Juba–Nimule Road Leaves One Dead

3-week-old baby left motherless after Khor-Kaltan attack; caretaker searches for family

A three-week-old baby girl has been left orphaned after her mother was tragically killed during the Khor-Kaltan attack, which claimed over 80 lives Saturday evening.

A source who spoke to Aweil News Agency this evening said the infant was rescued by a neighbour who survived the attack and had been living close to the child’s mother.

The caretaker, a woman of Kwakwa origin, reported the case at Checkpoint Police Station on Tuesday as she began efforts to trace the baby’s relatives for possible reunification.

According to her, the child’s mother was only known as Abuk. She had no information about the father or extended family, except that the mother was from Aweil and was her co-worker. Abuk was reportedly killed on the spot during the attack.

After surviving the incident, the woman fled with the baby to Juba, where she has been taking care of the child.

Sources further revealed that she later returned to Jebel Iraq in search of the child’s family and officially recorded her details at Checkpoint Police Station to support the tracing process.

She stated that she will continue caring for her late friend’s child while efforts to locate the family continue.

The Khor-Kaltan attack left more than 80 people dead and at least 20 others seriously injured.

Nine rebels, including leader, were killed in Jebel Iraq

The Minister of Information in Central Equatoria State, who went with a security team to Jebel Iraq, said nine rebels, including their leader, were killed by the South Sudan People's Defense Forces (SSPDF).

Addressing the media after visiting Jebel Iraq, where over 80 civilians were killed, Nyarsuk Patrick blamed the SPLA-IO for killing innocent civilians.
He revealed that the attackers were from SPLM/A-IO, citing that their leader was killed by the government forces.

“We went to the ground and found that many civilians were killed. The people who attacked the civilians at the mining site were SPLM/A-IO because nine of their members, including their leader, were killed,” he said.

He extended condolences to the families and reiterated the government's commitment to ensure that the attackers are dealt with.

Abiemnhom massacre death toll confirmed at 213 as victims list released

A verified list of victims from the March 1, 2026 attack in Abiemnhom County has put the total number of people killed at 213, according to figures shared by local sources.
