🚨Cyril Ramaphosa has been elected as South Africa’s next President.

🚨Although this has ended the country's political deadlock, it has opened a new chapter of rivalry between Ramaphosa and Jacob Zuma.

🚨Former president Zuma's uMkhonto we Sizwe party (MK) will join an alliance of smaller opposition parties in parliament in a bid to take on the African National Congress and Democratic Alliance-led coalition government.

🚨Earlier, the MK Party had boycotted the first sitting of the National Assembly on Friday after filing a complaint at the country's top court alleging vote-rigging.

🚨But now, the party says it will join the alliance called the "Progressive Caucus", which includes the Marxist Economic Freedom Fighters and the United Democratic Movement.

🚨For several months, analysts have anticipated President Vladimir Putin’s visit to North Korea.

🚨Now the Kremlin has confirmed it, proving speculation right that it may happen, with reports citing satellite images indicating preparations underway in North Korea.

🚨Following North Korean leader Kim Jong Un’s tour of Russia’s Far East last year in his distinctive green bulletproof train, he extended an invitation to Putin, who accepted it later.

🚨Journalists from Russia and abroad are eagerly seeking any updates, while the Kremlin maintains that details will be disclosed in due time. Speculation, however, remains intense.

🚨Russian special forces freed two prison guards and killed six inmates linked to ISIS who had taken the guards hostage at a detention centre in the southern city of Rostov.

🚨The inmates, convicted of terrorism offences, had demanded free passage out of the prison.

🚨The six hostage-takers knocked out window bars and climbed down several floors by rope before taking the guards hostage with a knife and fire axe.

🚨In a video published by a Telegram channel, an inmate with a knife beside a bound guard can be seen demanding free passage out of the prison.

🚨In a statement after the "special operation", Russia's Federal Penitentiary Service said, "The criminals were eliminated."

🚨World leaders meet for Ukraine Peace Summit in Switzerland.

🚨The two-day summit in Buergenstock, attended by leaders and officials from more than 90 countries, will conclude on June 16.

🚨The talks are focussed on broader concerns like food and nuclear security.

🚨Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky voiced hope for garnering a peace agreement.

🚨He added that agreements from the summit will be a part of the peacemaking process.

🚨US Vice President Kamala Harris vowed $1.5 billion in humanitarian aid to Ukraine.

🚨Most attendees voiced strong support for Ukraine, demanding “just peace”.

🚨UK PM Rishi Sunak hailed the "very strong turnout" at the summit which was shunned by China and dismissed as a waste of time by Russia.

🚨The Ukraine Peace Summit kicked off in Switzerland today. Ukraine's President Volodymyr Zelensky has termed the event historic.

🚨But Russia is not attending the summit. US President Joe Biden too - chose to send his Vice President Kamala Harris to the summit.

🚨Yesterday, Russian President Vladimir Putin has spelled out his conditions for truce.

🚨Putin wants Ukraine to give up its bid to join NATO and cede more land.

🚨This comes as Ukrainian troops struggle to make gains on the battlefield.

🚨South Africa’s Ramaphosa Re-elected for Another Term As ANC Strikes Last Minute Coalition Deal

🚨South Africa’s President Cyril Ramaphosa has been reelected by lawmakers for a second term, hours after his African National Congress and the Democratic Alliance (DA) agreed to form a coalition.

🚨This come after Ramaphosa won the late Friday vote against Julius Malema, leader of the far-left Economic Freedom Fighters, winning 283 votes to Malema’s 44.

🚨US President Joe Biden has blamed the Palestinian armed group Hamas for the delay in a ceasefire in Gaza.

🚨Biden has said that he does not expect to reach a truce deal for Gaza because his proposal has not been completely embraced by Hamas.

🚨This comes just days after Hamas responded to Biden's proposal with amendments.

🚨The changes that Hamas wants include Israeli troops pulling out entirely from Gaza and a complete halt to fighting before any exchange of Palestinian prisoners for Israeli hostages.

🚨US Secretary of State Antony Blinken has said that the counterproposal has some unacceptable demands.

🚨Meanwhile, Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu is yet to accept Biden's proposal publicly.

🚨Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump has suggested imposing an "all-tariff policy" that could potentially allow the US to eliminate income taxes.

🚨He made this suggestion during a private meeting with Republican lawmakers in Washington.

🚨House Speaker Mike Johnson expressed confidence that Republicans would win several seats but emphasized that the party isn't taking anything for granted.

🚨On the other hand, Trump has also hinted on deciding a Vice President elect for the upcoming 2024 presidential election.

🚨When asked if Republican governor just across the Potomac River was under consideration, Trump indicated that Virginia Gov. Glenn Youngkin is on his shortlist.
