I recently had the opportunity to document stories of resilience at Bidibidi Refugee Camp in Uganda, one of the largest refugee settlements in the world, hosting thousands of South Sudanese who were forced to flee their homes.

What stood out to me most was not just the population at the camp, but the strength of the people leaving in it. Despite the challenges of displacement and limited resources, the refugees I met showed incredible resilience.

There was a presence of small businesses being built from almost nothing. Most households used part of their profits from these small businesses to pay for their children’s education, while many others used theirs to feed their families.

The stories reminded me of the everyday realities that refugees face and their ability to adapt to overwhelming challenges.

We made a quick stop at this small trading center called Nyayingga Muda, located in Kajokeji, just a few kilometers to the border town of Yumbe District in Uganda 🇺🇬. We needed to pick up a few items for the journey.

To our surprise, the market mainly operates using the Ugandan currency, as it holds more value in the area. South Sudanese pounds are accepted, but at a serious disadvantage. You nearly end up paying double incase your to use them.

So incase your passing through this route, kindly carry some Ugx to avoid paying double 😂

Kajokeji town is one of the most peaceful and beautiful places in South Sudan 🇸🇸. It is full of green land, fresh air, organic foods and kind people.

It’s calm, quiet, and perfect for anyone who wants to relax away from the busy city life.

From documenting powerful stories in different parts of South Sudan and beyond to capturing everyday resilience and hope. Photography has opened doors, built connections, and allowed me to view life from angles I deeply value.

Every journey allowed me to document real human experiences, amplify unheard voices, and grow both personally and professionally.

Filming portrait content is powerful today because it meets people where they are right in their hands.

It also feels personal, immediate, and human. In the social media world of endless scrolling, vertical videos are important because they look and sound like real life. The character faces fill the frame and stories feel closer.
