Netizens Demand Accountability from President Kiir over Missing $2.5 Billion Oil Funds
South Sudanese citizens online are urging President Salva Kiir Mayardit to take decisive action and hold senior government officials accountable for the alleged disappearance of $2.5 billion in oil revenue.
Leaked documents suggest that the Ministry of Petroleum, through a request signed by Undersecretary Eng. Deng Lual Wol, sought an advance payment of $2.5 billion from ONGC Nile Ganga, a consortium involved in purchasing South Sudan’s crude oil. However, the funds reportedly never made it into the government’s official bank accounts.
Public discussions have linked several high-profile figures to the controversy, including Undersecretary Deng Lual Wol, Nilepet Managing Director Ayuel Ngor Kacgor, former Vice President for Economic Cluster Dr. Benjamin Bol Mel, and former Central Bank Governor Addis Ababa Othow.
According to multiple sources, the recently dismissed officials—Bol Mel, Addis Ababa, Simon Akuei Deng, and Deng Lual Wol—are believed to be under house arrest, while Nilepet MD Ayuel Ngor Kacgor is reportedly on the run, with his whereabouts unknown since the leak emerged.
Across social media, calls for transparency and justice continue to grow, with many describing the scandal as one of the biggest financial controversies to ever hit South Sudan’s oil industry.
