What you need to know—Is there ongoing road construction from Aweil North County to Sudan?
There is news circulating about road construction from Aweil North County of Northern Bahr El Ghazal State to Sudan on the side of River Kiir.
It is alleged the road construction is being made after an agreement between the two governments—that of Sudan and Northern Bahr El Ghazal State.
This is a very controversial issue raising concerns among the communities, youth, and intellectuals in the area.
However, this project is said to be lacking evidence of the alleged agreement according to the Chairperson of Aweil North County Youth Association Dau Garang Dau, who said, is still following up on the matter with Aweil North County Commissioner Kiir Chan Wol.
“I was informed by the community that soil is being taken from Manyiel Yin Ken of Malual West Payam to the other side of River Kiir where road construction will start up to Sudan. They said this is done after the commissioner signed the agreement but the community questions this project since territory from which road construction starts, belongs to them.
I went to Hon. Commissioner Kiir Chan Wol, and told him that there is news that you made the agreement with Rezeigat about road construction. Is it true that there is another agreement that residents in the area where soil is taken, are given something and there are several other agreements in place?
The commissioner said that there were no such agreements,” Dau told Aweil News Agency on Saturday.
He continued saying, “I told the commissioner again that the community is saying there are nine trucks that come and take away the soil and that this could be the implementation of the said agreement. He again said no agreement was in place adding those trucks are transporting the soil to repair the bridge in a Sudanese place called Kurusi at the border.
