Statement of appreciation to officials who accompanied the presidential visit to Bahr El Ghazal
The Office of the President extends its sincere gratitude to all those who contributed to the success of His Excellency President Salva Kiir Mayardit's recent visit across the Bahr el Ghazal region.
The Office particularly appreciates His Excellency Hussein Abdelbagi Akol, Vice President and Chairperson of the Service Cluster; members of the national government; governors; senior government officials; security personnel; technical teams; traditional leaders; and community representatives whose dedication and service helped make the visit peaceful, productive, and successful.
Special appreciation is extended to the hosting governors: Maj. General Sherif Daniel Sherif, Governor of Western Bahr el Ghazal State; Ambassador Bol Wek Agoth, Governor of Warrap State; and Governor Charles Madut Akol, Governor of Northern Bahr el Ghazal State, for their leadership and hospitality throughout the visit. The Office also recognizes the contributions of the Vice President and accompanying ministers.
The Office further commends Hon. Peter Lam Both, Minister of Roads and Bridges, and the entire Ministry of Roads and Bridges for their efforts in improving and maintaining the road networks linking Juba to Bahr el Ghazal and connecting communities across Western Bahr el Ghazal, Warrap State, and Northern Bahr el Ghazal. The successful journey across hundreds of kilometres demonstrated the progress being made in connecting communities, facilitating movement, strengthening national unity, and opening new opportunities for economic growth and development across the country.
As is standard practice during presidential visits, whether official, working, regional, or private in nature, ministers, senior government officials, security personnel, and technical staff accompany His Excellency to discharge their responsibilities and provide the expertise required for the successful ex*****on of the visit.
The Office of the President has taken note of claims and allegations that officials who accompanied His Excellency during this visit did so with expectations of personal financial rewards or monetary gifts. Such claims are entirely unfounded and fail to recognize the professionalism and dedication demonstrated by those who participated in the journey.
At no point are ministers or government officials compensated by the President personally for carrying out their official duties, nor do they accompany him in expectation of financial handouts. Their service is guided by their constitutional responsibilities, their commitment to the people of South Sudan, and their dedication to ensuring that government functions effectively at all levels.
The Office of the President once again expresses its appreciation to all those who contributed to making the visit peaceful, productive, and successful and commends their continued service to the Republic of South Sudan.
