Strong Enough to Survive, Yet Weakened Within: A Case Study of H.E. President Salva Kiir Mayardit
South Sudan’s political journey under President Salva Kiir Mayardit offers a paradox worth examining. From an academic lens, his leadership demonstrates resilience in the face of external pressures regional conflicts, international scrutiny, and the immense challenge of state-building in a young nation. His ability to keep the country intact through turbulent years reflects the strength of survival against overwhelming odds and planned plane crash in Nairobi years back.
Yet, from a journalistic perspective, the narrative is layered with internal contradictions. Reports and accounts highlight how divisions among servicemen, political allies, and military elites have eroded the very foundation meant to support his leadership. The weakening from within mistrust, factionalism, and disloyalty has often posed greater threats than external enemies and economic recessions.
This case study is not merely about one man’s endurance, my suffering majority, but about the fragile balance between loyalty and betrayal, unity and fragmentation, survival and vulnerability. It is a story of leadership under siege, where the greatest test comes not from outside forces, but from within the ranks of those sworn to protect the nation.
They turned him into a laughing stocks and memme him once he speaks but little did they know that he had been a great and a most amazing man among his peer groups.
