Twic County Officials Move to End Illegal Roadblocks
Twic County, April 18, 2025 — In a bid to streamline movement and secure legitimate revenue, Twic County Commissioner Hon. John Mabior Marup and SSPDF Division 11 commander Maj. Gen. Jima Rehan today visited the Madou and Nyin Deng Ayuel areas to engage with soldiers, youth leaders, Titweng representatives and local elders.
During the field visit, both leaders announced a clear set of directives:
• Immediate Ban on Unauthorized Checkpoints: All informal roadblocks must be dismantled at once. “These illegal stops have inconvenienced travelers and encouraged extortion,” Commissioner Marup said.
• CID to Oversee Foreign‑Related Matters: The Criminal Investigation Department is now responsible for any issues involving non‑citizens, ensuring security and due process.
• National Revenue Authority to Handle All Tax Collection: Only official NRA officers may collect fees at approved checkpoints, ending rogue taxation.
“By shutting down unregulated checkpoints, we protect motorists, reduce delays and guarantee that revenue supports county development,” Marup added. Maj. Gen. Rehan pledged full SSPDF support: “Our troops will enforce these orders firmly but fairly, safeguarding both community welfare and free movement.”
Residents and transport operators have already welcomed the move, expressing optimism that the changes will curb corruption, boost trade, and foster greater trust between citizens and authorities. Local enforcement teams will begin monitoring compliance immediately.
