A Message of Hope to the People of South Sudan on the Occasion of its 14th Anniversary of Independence
By. Moses Akuei Noon.
The 9th of July to South Sudanese people both at home and around the globe is more than the family traditions, fireworks, or parades, it's a day when the stars and stripes reminds us of our freedom, unity, and the South Sudanese dream of self determination which our forefathers and liberators fought for against the government in Khartoum.
As we mark the 14 years since that historic day in July 9, 2011 when our flag was first raised, it's a time for reflection, remembrance, and, most importantly, renewed hope. We've a challenging path, facing trials that would test the spirit of any nation in the world. Yet, through it all, your resilience, courage, and unwavering belief in a brighter future have shone through.
The journey to the nationhood was born from a collective yearning for freedom and self-determination. While the years since have brought both triumphs and tribulations, let us not forget the immense potential that lies within our borders and, more profoundly, within each and every one of you. Our land is rich, our cultures vibrant and diverse, and our people are very strong and courageous.
Today, as we celebrate this 14th anniversary of South Sudan Independence, let us recommit to the ideals of our liberators like Dr. John Garang De Mabior, which sparked our independence: unity, peace, and prosperity. Let us build on the progress made by the founding fathers of SPLM/A, however, incremental it may seem, and look forward with determination.
The future of South Sudan rests on our collective shoulders. It's a future where every child has access to education, where healthcare is a right, where our lands yield abundance, and where peace reigns supreme. This is not just a mere dream; it is an achievable reality if we work together, hand in hand, with a shared vision, stop tribalism and corruption in our country.
Let us forgive ourselves, reconcile, and build bridges. Let us empower our young generation of youths, uplift our resilience women, and care for our vulnerable people. Let us channel our energy into constructive dialogue and collaborative actions. The spirit of July 9, 2011, the spirit of hope and possibility, is still very much alive within us. Let it be the guiding light as we embark on the next chapter of our nation's story.
As I conclude this message of hope, I want to say, may you all enjoy a holiday filled with the family traditions, patriotic pride, and all the small joys that make this day so meaningful. Once again, I wish every South Sudanese a memorable and festive Independence Day.
Happy Independence Day, South Sudan! May peace and prosperity prevail among the 64 tribes of South Sudan.
Best Regards.
