BREAKING: Teacher Shot During School Football Match at Wau Stadium.

WAU, SOUTH SUDAN — Tension gripped Wau Stadium this afternoon, October 6, 2025, after a shocking shooting disrupted a school football game between Brilliant School and Wau Day School.

According to eyewitnesses, Ustaz John Dut Bol, a respected teacher, was shot in the back during the match. The motive behind the attack remains unclear at this time.

He was rushed to St. Daniel Comboni Hospital, where he is currently receiving medical treatment. His condition has not yet been officially disclosed.

Malek Chol Kuoch, Chairperson of the Aweil Youth Association in Western Bahr el Ghazal, confirmed that the suspected shooter has been arrested. Authorities are continuing their investigation into the motive behind this alarming incident.

The community has been left in shock, calling for increased security at public school events.

South Sudan's First Vice President, Riek Machar, took the stand on Friday during a Special Court hearing to challenge the legitimacy of the case against him. Machar argued that, due to his constitutional immunity, the Ministry of Justice can‘t investigate him and insisted that the case should be handled by the Ceasefire and Transitional Security Arrangements Monitoring and Verification Mechanism. Machar faces charges of treason, murder, and crimes against humanity. No decision was made regarding Machar's argument on Friday, and the trial is set to resume next Monday.
