The Department of Agriculture, Environment and Forestry in Leer County, Unity State, has urged farmers to use irrigation to protect food production as a severe dry spell continues to destroy crops.

Simon Liah Kuor, the county’s Director of Agriculture, Environment and Forestry, said farmers should make use of available water sources along the riverbanks to continue planting and producing food.

President Salva Kiir has directed government institutions to work toward the formalization and regulation of mining activities in Raad, Greater Pibor Administrative Area (GPAA).

The directive came on Wednesday after the President received a briefing from GPAA Chief Administrator Gola Boyoi Gola on mining activities, security and recent tensions involving Murle age-set groups.
