OFFICIAL ANNOUNCEMENT

President Salva Kiir Mayardit to Visit Northern Bahr el Ghazal State Tomorrow

The Office of the Commissioner of Aweil East County wishes to inform the general public that the President of the Republic of South Sudan, H.E. Gen. Salva Kiir Mayardit, is expected to visit Northern Bahr el Ghazal State tomorrow, Tuesday.

Earlier today, the State Minister of Information and Communication, Gabriel Deng Yel, confirmed that President Kiir will be in Aweil as part of his official visit to the state.

According to the minister, the President is scheduled to address citizens at Aweil Freedom Square during his visit.

In light of this important occasion, the Commissioner of Aweil East County, Hon. Garang Thiang Deng, calls upon all residents of Aweil East County to turn out in large numbers and line the roadside from Peth Lou to Ajaac to warmly welcome the President as he travels through the county.

The Office of the Commissioner encourages citizens to maintain order and demonstrate the county's hospitality and unity during the visit.

BREAKING: South Sudan Artists' Union appoints Agok Agok Lual as NBGs' Artists' Union Chairman

Singer Agok Agok Lual popularly known as Agok Makako has been appointed as the new Chairperson of Northern Bahr El Ghazal State Artists' Union.

In an official document released Friday, South Sudan Artists' Union Chairman James Akech Nhial alias Akut Kuei appointed Agok Agok and other State Artists' Union including three Administrative Areas.

Aweil, June 8, 2026 - Ustaz Christopher Athian, Director General of the State Ministry of Education, convened a key meeting with headteachers of public schools in Aweil Town.

The meeting focused on the reopening of schools for the second term and preparations ahead of the anticipated visit of H.E. Salva Kiir Mayardit. It was attended by Ministry Directors and Ustaz John Mel Tong, County Education Officer of Aweil Town.

Ustaz Peter Deng Deng and Ustaz Clement Kiir emphasized responsibility, urging headteachers to take full charge of their schools, staff, and students. Ustaz Mark Makuel encouraged teachers to remain committed as learning resumes.

In his closing remarks, the Director General called on all teachers to stay dedicated and continue delivering their duties despite the current situation.

Juba, June, 82026 - H.E Emmanuel Adil Anthony, the Governor of Central Equatoria State held talks with H.E. Delil Khedir Bushra, the Ethiopan Ambassador to South Sudan. The talks which centered on recent visit of High-level Delegation headed by Governor Adil to Addis Ababa, Ethiopia in May, resulted into shared mutual agreement in deepening people to people relations, Government to Government relations, economic integration, and urbanization plans.

The two leaders affirmed their support in replication of a benchmark modern housing plans through the State Housing Authority and in collaboration with the Federal Housing Corporation [FHC] of Ethiopia.

The meeting highlights the strong ties between South Sudan and Ethiopia and ways of strengthening mutual interest between Juba and Addis Ababa in terms of infrastructure, and economic development of the two sisterly countries.

Key stakeholders to the 2018 peace agreement, including SPLM-IO, NDM, SSPM, PLP, and PDM, among other opposition political parties, are yet to complete registration ahead of the December 2026 general elections. The Political Parties Council has set June 30 as the deadline for registration following an update on the status of political entities in the country.

Juba, June 8, 2026 - The Vice President of the Republic and Chairperson of the Economic Cluster, H.E. Prof. James Wani Igga, met with a delegation from the Reconstituted Joint Monitoring and Evaluation Commission (R-JMEC) at his office in Juba today.

The meeting focused on the implementation of the peace agreement and preparations for the upcoming free, fair, and democratic elections in South Sudan.

During the meeting, H.E. Prof. Igga reaffirmed the Government of South Sudanโ€™s commitment to implementing the peace process to pave the way for economic transformation and sustainable development.

For his part, the Interim Chairperson of R-JMEC, Amb. Maj. Gen. George Aggrey, said the meeting discussed progress on the peace process and the role of R-JMEC in supporting it in the country.

The meeting underscores the importance of the peace agreement and the December 2026 elections.

Juba, June 8, 2026 - Senior ICT officials and Zambian Presidential Special Envoy hold talks ahead of the African Telecommunications Union elections, slated for late July 2026, in Nigeria. Zambia is seeking support for its candidate Eng. Kezia Mwale, whoโ€™s running for Secretary General of the ATU Executive Secretariat.
H.E Hon. Evans Chibriti, whoโ€™s delivering a special message of H.E President Hichelima Hakainde to H.E President Salva Kiir Mayardit, reaffirmed the fraternal relationship that existed between the two countries, dating back to the times of President Kennedy Kaunda and the late leader Dr. John. Garang De Mabior.

Meanwhile, the Undersecretary of Telecom Sector, Hon. Eng. Thomas Gatkuoth Nyak, emphasized the bilateral opportunities both countries could benefit from, adding that South Sudan values the support extended by the African people during their struggle for independence.
