Bishop Sonto Loku Calls Christians to Follow the Example of Uganda Martyrs

Bishop Sonto Loku has urged Christians to remain faithful to Christ and live according to the Beatitudes as the Church celebrated the feast of St. Charles Lwanga, St. Kizito and the Uganda Martyrs.

In his homily, the bishop praised the Uganda Martyrs for their courage and unwavering faith, noting that they chose death rather than abandon their Christian beliefs. He reminded the faithful that, like the martyrs and the seven brothers in the Book of Maccabees, Christians should trust in God's promise of eternal life.

Reflecting on St. Paul’s message to the Romans, Bishop Loku emphasized that nothing can separate believers from the love of God and encouraged Christians to put their faith into practice in daily life.

He also highlighted the Beatitudes as a guide to Christian discipleship, calling on believers to embrace humility, mercy, righteousness, purity of heart, peacemaking and perseverance in times of persecution.

The bishop concluded by encouraging the faithful to follow the example of the Uganda Martyrs and live joyful, courageous and Christ-centered lives, recalling Pope Paul VI’s message that “the Christian life is a most beautiful thing.”
