Where in the world can a country achieve it development and unity when there are individuals, like Dr. Riek Machar, who always thrive on creating war and tribalism among their own communities?

It is our collective responsibility as the national government to address those who seek to create conflict among our communities for the safety of our citizens and the International lawyers must recognize this because It is very clear from the international community's stance—favoring Dr. Riek Machar as a rebel over the government and that some do not want to see South Sudan in peace and unity. Why are foreign lawyers so concerned about South Sudan's security affairs if they are not beneficiaries of war?

I believe Dr. Riek Machar and his allies will not escape to the bush this time, as he is currently under house arrest and Those who continue to incite violence, such as Makuach Tut and Lam Paul Gabriel, must be brought to justice for the crimes they are still committing because I believe our 64 national government is diligently working so hard to ensure the safety of its citizens. I know that many international lawyers are, in fact, sponsors of terrorism always .Referring to our South Sudanese lawyers as "local" is offensive, especially when many of them are well-informed and capable to do the best work.

But sometimes It is disheartening that in Africa countries , one can defend someone like Dr. Riek Machar, who has been responsible for the deaths of a thousands because Dr.Riek Machar has been since 1991 promoting tribal languages among our communities, as seen in the events of March in Nasir and Ulang, where the White Army under Dr. Riek Machar killed our national soldiers, referring to them as "Dinka Bahr el Ghazal soldiers." This use of tribalist language only serves to create divisions among our communities which we can’t as citizens who love to see South Sudan in peace and unity.

Their interests are clear, and they will never defeat the government of South Sudan. We cannot allow those who seek to create war against the people of the Republic of South Sudan to remain unchallenged.

Dr. Machar and his allies must be held accountable for the attacks in Nasir and Ulang, which resulted in the deaths of General Majur Dak and over 250 soldiers. As outlined in our constitution, they must face the consequences of their actions.

Justice Minister Joseph Geng Akech and Sarah Peter Nyot Kok, Consul General:

South Sudan's First Vice-President, Dr. Riek Machar Teny, has been charged with murder, treason, and crimes against humanity. This development has raised concerns that it could reignite the country's civil war.

Justice Minister Joseph Geng Akech stated that the charges against Machar are connected to a militia attack in March, which is allegedly linked to the vice-president.

Opinion:Justice over Impunity: Why taking Dr. Riek Machar Teny and his associates to court is a necessary step toward lasting Peace and political stability

South Sudan has endured decades of war, instability, and political betrayal. At the heart of our suffering lies a repeated failure to hold powerful individuals accountable for crimes committed against the people of this nation. Now is the time to hold individuals accountable for committing crimes against the constitution and territorial integrity of the state. Bravo Hon. Dr. Geng Akech, the newly appointed Minister of Justice and Justice Achol Nyot Kok, the Attorney General in the Ministry of Justice.

Today, the Government of South Sudan has taken a bold and necessary step by initiating legal proceedings against Dr. Riek Machar and his associates for war crimes, crimes against humanity, and gross violations of the constitution. This decision is not only justified, it is long overdue. For the first time, South Sudan has chosen justice over impunity. Maburuk President Salva, you have on board new team with fresh minds and energy to accomplish what had stuck for months.

No More excuses for rebellion
Since the 2013 outbreak of civil war, Dr. Machar has repeatedly plunged the country into conflict. From ethnic massacres to r**e used as a weapon of war, the list of atrocities committed under his command is horrifying and well-documented.
Multiple reports by the United Nations Human Rights Commission, the African Union Commission of Inquiry, and CTSAMVM have attributed the following crimes to forces loyal to Machar:

1) The massacres in Juba, Bor, Malakal, and Bentiu (2013–2016);
2). Sexual violence and gang r**e of women and girls, often in front of family members;
3). Recruitment of child soldiers and forced conscription of civilians;
4). The recent Nasir ambush (August 2025), where national army units and civilians were killed in a premeditated attack a clear violation of the Revitalized Peace Agreement.

These are not political matters. These are grave international crimes. Justice is not revenge, it is a responsibility. Sincerely speaking, taking Dr. Machar to court is not about revenge or political scoring. It is about restoring dignity, healing victims, and affirming that no one is above the law. What does it say to survivors if the man responsible for their suffering is allowed to walk free, make speeches, and return to politics, while they are left traumatized, displaced, and forgotten?

Justice sends a message to the next generation: South Sudan is a nation of laws, not rebels. We will no longer reward violence with power. Supporting the Victims, not the perpetrators.
The victims of war are not statistics. They are real people:

1). The mother who lost her child to a militia bullet in Bentiu;
2). The girl in Malakal who was gang-r**ed and left for dead;
3). The displaced families in Nasir, whose homes were burned while they fled with nothing.
4). These are the voices we must elevate not those of repeat offenders hiding behind political alliances.

A New era of accountability
The Government’s decision to pursue justice marks a turning point in our national journey. It tells the world that South Sudan is ready to rise above the past. That we will not continue the cycle of appeasement and silence. That we believe in justice, not just peace agreements that delay the next war.

1). We call upon: The judiciary to ensure a fair, credible trial;
2). The international community to support the legal process with technical expertise and oversight;
3). All political actors to respect the rule of law, regardless of political affiliation;
4). And most importantly, the people of South Sudan to unite behind justice.

Conclusion: A Nation that chooses Justice, chooses peace. Applause President Salva Kiir Mayardit and his team for the tremendous job well done. You have saved our nation. Peace without justice is a fragile peace and one that South Sudan can no longer afford. True reconciliation will only come when those who destroyed lives are held accountable brfore any competent court of law.

Dr. Riek Machar and his associates must answer to the law not because of political rivalry, but because of their documented role in crimes that devastated our nation for so long. Let this be the beginning of a new South Sudan. One where rebels do not become kings, and warlords do not become lawmakers. One where justice speaks louder than guns.
