MALAKAL, Thursday, 11 June 2026

H.E. Lt. Gen. James Koang Chuol Ranley, Governor of Upper Nile State, met with a humanitarian team led by the Head of the UNMISS Field Office to discuss the Durable Solutions Plan for insecurity, among other important priorities in the state. The meeting focused on sustainable solutions for insecurity, particularly on the Facilitation of IDPs and returnees resettlement and integration into communities across Upper Nile State.

During the deliberations, the team highlighted the need for coordinated efforts to address challenges that are beyond the capacity of the partners, most especially on the security sector. The discussion emphasized the importance of strengthening collaboration between the state government and humanitarian partners to provide effective support to the affected populations and promote lasting solutions

The Governor reiterated his commitment to working closely with humanitarian organizations that are willing to support vulnerable communities in Upper Nile State. He reaffirmed the state government's readiness to partner with humanitarian organizations and Agencies in addressing the needs of IDPs, returnees, and host communities, with the goal of fostering stability, resilience, and sustainable development throughout the state.

The meeting was chaired by H.E. Lt. Gen. James Koang Chuol Ranley, Governor of Upper Nile State, and was attended by Hon. Deng Akuei Kak, Deputy Governor, Deputy Chairperson of the National Relief and Rehabilitation Commission, state ministers, and heads of state independent commissions.

The Deputy Governor of Upper Nile State, Hon. Deng Akuei Kak, called today, during a visit of Ulang community, and presenting their gift to H.E.Lt. Gen.James Koang Chuol Ranley, Governor of Upper Nile State, all communities to live in peace in order to achieve lasting stability and provide opportunity for development projects in the state .

The Deputy Governor Highlighted that peace has become apparent to everyone, but what remains requires collective responsibility and making it a tangible reality experienced by all communities .

The Deputy Governor expressed his appreciation to the Ulang community for their willingness to live in peace with neighboring communities, stressing the governmentโ€™s commitment, led by H.E.Lt.Gen. James Koang Chuol, to help communities to live in peace and social cohesion .

I would like to respectfully appeal to everyone to stop threatening and harassing the young lady involved in the recent incident . She has already come forward and publicly apologized for the mistake she made .
continuing to attack, intimidate , or threaten her will not change what has happened .

As human beings, we are not perfect . We all make mistakes, and we learn valuable lessons from them .The true measure of our humanity is not whether we make mistakes, but whether we acknowledge them , learn from them and strive to do better .

The young lady has shown courage by accepting responsibility and apologizing.
Therefore , I urge all media outlets and members of the public to allow her the opportunity to learn , grow , and move forward with her life . Let us choose compassion over cruelty, understanding over hatred , and forgiveness over condemnation.

No one deserves to live in fear cos of a mistake for which they have already expressed remorse. Let us promote a culture that encourages accountability while also allowing room for redemption and personal growth .

Artistsโ€™ Union president confirms state chairpersons

South Sudan Artists Union President James Akech Nhial, popularly known as Akut Kuei, has confirmed chairpersons to lead the union across the countryโ€™s states and administrative areas.

The appointments were made through Order No. 02/2026 issued under the powers granted to the president by the unionโ€™s constitution. The order confirms the leadership of state artistsโ€™ unions and administrative area branches for the 2026 term.

Among those appointed are Agele Kenedy Joseph for Central Equatoria State, Johnson Atari (Big Hunter) for Eastern Equatoria State, Moses Wandu Bimo Gbudue for Western Equatoria State, Ajak Daniel Malueth Ajok for Jonglei State, Ayom Deng Ajak for Upper Nile state Lang Tap Bol for Unity state. Gabriel mayiel Lakes State, Daniel Ding Ding for Warrap State, Wol Madut Chan for Western Bahr el Ghazal State, and Agok Agok Lual (Agok Makako) for Northern Bahr el Ghazal State.

The order also confirmed Arop Deng Ajang as chairperson for the Abyei Special Administrative Area, Franco Korok for the Greater Pibor Administrative Area, and Beny Wal for the Ruweng Administrative Area.

The appointments took effect on June 5, 2026, according to the order signed by James.
