Tonj North Peace Tournament Management issued clarification regarding the incident that happened after the game between Nyang Akoch and Awan Parek.

CLARIFICATION ON THE INCIDENT REPORT ON THE OPENING GAME OF TONJ NORTH PEACE TOURNAMENT.
The leadership of the Tonj North Peace Tournament would like to report an unfortunate incident that occurred shortly after the successful conclusion of the opening match between Nyang Akoch and Awan Parek on Sunday, 10th May 2026 at Munuki Playground.
The match itself was conducted peacefully and ended successfully without any disturbance between the two participating teams and their supporters.
However, shortly after the game, clashes erupted involving members of Lou Ariik and Lou Mawien groups, who were previously disqualified by the management of the Tonj North Peace Tournament but later reinstated to participate as Payams following consultations aimed at promoting peace and unity.
The fighting resulted in several injuries and created panic among the public at the venue. Security personnel and responsible authorities intervened to contain the situation and prevent further escalation.
The leadership of the Tonj North Peace Tournament wishes to make it clear to the public that the violence was not between the supporters or players of Nyang Akoch and Awan Parek.
The incident involved individuals from the above-mentioned groups whose continued actions are threatening peace, unity, and the objectives of this tournament.
The tournament was organized as a platform to promote reconciliation, coexistence, and peace among the communities of Tonj North.
Any act intended to sabotage these objectives will not be tolerated.
Therefore, the concerned authorities, together with the Warrap State Coordination Office and the leadership of the Tonj North Peace Tournament, shall convene to deliberate and find a final resolution regarding the conduct of these groups and measures necessary to safeguard peace and stability throughout the tournament.
The leadership calls upon all communities, youth, players, and supporters to remain calm, maintain discipline, and uphold the spirit of peace and unity which remains the core objective the Tonj North Peace Tournament.
