Notable 11 court cases across Africa 2025:
1. Democratic Republic of Congo: A military court in Kinshasa sentenced former President Joseph Kabila to death in absentia, finding him guilty of treason, war crimes, and crimes against humanity.
2. South Africa: Opposition leader Julius Malema was found guilty of violating firearm laws related to a 2018 incident in which he fired a rifle at a political rally. Malema’s claim that the weapon was a toy gun was rejected. The case is ongoing.
3. Tanzania – Shaibu and Others v. United Republic of Tanzania: The court allowed the reopening of pleadings and permitted participation of amici curiae in a case alleging violations of electoral rights.
