Recent documents issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to the Embassy of the United States of America have revealed questionable engagements seeking sanctions relief for specific individuals, including Dr. Benjamin Bol Mel. Public audits and discussions about accountability have consistently referenced him in matters of corruption, highlighting the significant loss of public funds.

This fact is clear. The office of the Minister of Foreign Affairs is responsible for

Which β€œRevitalized Peace Agreement” Are We Talking About?

With all due respect to Edmund Yakani, I must ask clearly: what Revitalized Peace Agreement are you talking about?

Because the reality on the ground shows that the so-called peace agreement has been destroyed and abused by President Salva Kiir Mayardit and his regime.

1) Peace cannot exist where war continues

You cannot talk about β€œtransition” and β€œinclusive political roundtable” while:

civilians are still being killed,

communities are still displaced,

insecurity is spreading,

and the country remains militarized.

This is not peace. This is a war paused for political convenience.

2) Kiir destroyed the peace and the trust

The main problem is not February or March mismanagement.
The problem is that Kiir’s government has:

violated the agreement repeatedly,

weakened institutions,

used the army for political survival,

divided communities,

and blocked reforms.

So when people mention elections, it sounds like a joke to suffering citizens.

3) 2026 elections without reforms is deception

An election is not just a date on the calendar.
For elections to be credible, South Sudan must have:

security reforms

unified forces

independent institutions

freedom of speech

political space

rule of law

Without these, the 2026 election will be fraud, not democracy.

4) We don’t need more β€œroundtables” β€” we need implementation

South Sudanese are tired of conferences and speeches.
What we need is:

implementation of security arrangements

accountability for crimes

protection of civilians

end of corruption

end of tribal manipulation

Conclusion

Stop pretending the agreement is working. It is not.

If Kiir could not protect peace for the last years, how will he protect elections?
South Sudan does not need another political performance β€” it needs real change.

JUBA, South Sudan (Eye Radio) β€” Civil society activist Edmund Yakani warned that mismanaging the transition throughout February and March will place South Sudan in a β€˜very dangerous position. The Executive Director of the Community Empowerment for Progress Organization (CEPO) stressed that time ...

30/01/2026

We appreciate any call for civilians to return to their homes, because nobody wants displacement forever. But telling people to go back to villages without first improving security is misleading and dangerous.

Civilians are not soldiers. They are mothers, children, elders, and innocent people who already suffered enough.

1) Return must be based on real security, not speeches

Applause and public reception in Pathai town is not the same as safety in the villages. People need:

permanent security presence

protection from revenge attacks

removal of threats and armed groups

safe roads and freedom of movement

Without these, returning home becomes a trap, not a solution.

2) The same generals cannot be the only β€œguarantors”

It is confusing and painful to see civilians praised by the same commanders who led troops in battles in those areas. Civilians need neutral protection, not political statements.

Security must be verified by:

independent monitoring

humanitarian agencies

community leaders from all sides

3) Humanitarian access must be guaranteed first

Before civilians return, government must ensure:

food and medicine

clinics and schools

clean water

protection for aid workers

Without services, people will suffer again.

Conclusion

We support return to ancestral homes, but security must improve first. Otherwise, encouraging civilians to return is irresponsible and may expose them to more killings and displacement.

Peace is not announcements. Peace is safety on the ground
