🌍 Africa is tearing apart — and creating a new ocean.

Deep beneath the Horn of Africa, tectonic forces are pulling the continent apart—literally.

In the Afar region, where Ethiopia, Djibouti, and Eritrea meet, three tectonic plates are slowly drifting from each other at a rate of up to 0.3 inches per year.

Fueled by rising magma from the Earth’s mantle, this geological rifting is creating cracks and bulges in the landscape, and scientists believe it may eventually lead to the birth of a brand-new ocean. If the spreading continues, the easternmost portion of Africa could break off entirely, forming a vast island similar to the Arabian Peninsula.

Although the process is slow on human timescales, it's relatively rapid geologically—estimates suggest a new ocean could form within 1 to 20 million years.

Satellite imaging and GPS mapping have helped scientists closely track the separation, providing a rare view of ocean formation in action on dry land. The Afar Depression, near the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden, is now considered the final stage before true oceanic spreading begins. If water from the Indian Ocean floods into the rift, this dramatic reshaping of Earth's surface would mark one of the most significant continental transformations in millions of years.

Wishing South Sudan a joyful 14th Independence Day!🇸🇸

Even after the long and difficult journey to independence, many children, women, and the elderly continue to face hardship in the country and in particular, people in Nasir, Ulang, Longechuk, Mayom and Fangak counties as targeted and profiled by the Government to suffer based on their ethnic backgrounds. Sadly, while the current leadership enjoys the privileges of power, ordinary citizens still endure great suffering.

Nevertheless, let us mark this special day to all our heroes and the heroines who have lost their lives to secure this very special country and hope for a brighter future.

How to avoid jail in South Sudan

1. Avoid online dramas
2. Avoid people of Amarat at all cost
3. Avoid loans with abnormal interests
4. Don’t visit those who stay in apartments (those are dens of trouble, a lot happens there)
5. Drive carefully
6. If you’re on the phone with someone and they ask you to repeat what you said, end the call. They want to record your voice
7. If traffic police get annoyed, get annoyed also, but not too long. Purchase your freedom if necessary.
8. If you’re dating someone’s partner, buy yourself a small phone and switch it off immediately after the mission
9. Don’t forget to drink at least 3 bottles of water per day and mind your business
10. Your party is SPLM

11. Don’t argue with short people. They’ll do anything to prove that they’re not small.
