Maridi Commissioner Rallies Citizens for Peace and Unity During SPLA/M 43rd Anniversary
Saturday, 16 May 2026
The Commissioner of Maridi County, Honorable Daniel Saleh Balash, has called for peace, love, and unity among citizens as Maridi County joined the rest of the country in marking the 43rd Anniversary of SPLA/M Day at Maridi Freedom Square on Saturday, May 16, 2026.
Addressing the gathering during the celebrations, Honorable Balash described himself as “a servant” committed to serving the people of Maridi County. He strongly condemned hate speech among leaders, urging them to promote harmony and togetherness for the development of the county.
The commissioner also appealed to the youth and residents to respect their leaders and offer advice where necessary instead of constant criticism. He encouraged citizens to remain patriotic, hardworking, and committed to keeping Maridi County clean.
In his remarks, Honorable Balash further called on parents to encourage their sons and daughters who are still in the bush to return home and continue with normal life, stressing that dialogue remains the best solution to resolving differences instead of war.
Meanwhile, the Acting SSPDF Division 6 infantry Commander, Maj. Gen. Bior Kur Deng, urged citizens to honor and respect the heroes and heroines who sacrificed their lives for the liberation of South Sudan. He emphasized that soldiers should protect civilians and their properties rather than mistreating them.
Maj. Gen. Bior also noted that despite the ongoing challenges facing the country, the SSPDF must remain neutral and committed to its constitutional role of defending the nation and its people instead of supporting political sides.
The SPLA/M 43rd anniversary celebrations in Maridi were marked by messages of unity, patriotism, peace, and renewed calls for reconciliation as leaders urged citizens to work together for a stable and prosperous South Sudan.
