Police Recover Missing Two-Year-Old Child in Maridi
Maridi, Western Equatoria State | June 19, 2026
Police in Maridi County have successfully recovered a two-year-old child who was reported missing under suspicious circumstances on Thursday.
According to sources close to the family, the child, identified as Happy Kaltan, disappeared on Thursday morning after a boda boda rider allegedly arrived at the family's home claiming that he had been sent by the child's father to pick up the child.
Happy was later found at Corner Lodge after the manager became suspicious when he noticed that a young child had been left alone in one of the rooms. The manager reportedly informed the police at around 11:00 PM after realizing that the couple who had been staying at the lodge for several days had no child with them when they checked in.
Following the report, police responded and safely recovered Happy. She has since been reunited with family members. No arrests have been made so far, and police say investigations are ongoing to identify and apprehend those responsible for the suspected abduction.
Authorities have urged parents and guardians to remain vigilant and ensure that children are not handed over to strangers without proper verification.
The successful recovery of the child highlights the importance of community vigilance and timely reporting of suspicious activities. Police have assured the public that efforts are underway to bring the perpetrators to justice and prevent similar incidents in the future.
