Yei River County Commissioner Emmanuel Taban Seme has announced that more than 200,000 South Sudanese have left refugee camps in Uganda due to food shortages and returned to Yei to restart their lives.

Speaking to the media, Seme confirmed that despite past conflict, returnees are voluntarily coming back to engage in farming and rebuild their communities.

"Our people are returning home from Ugandan refugee camps. The Relief and Rehabilitation Commission (RRC) has registered over 200,000 returnees in Yei, and they are now actively involved in agriculture," he said.

The mass return highlights both the worsening conditions in refugee settlements and the resilience of displaced families seeking self-sufficiency.

A major traffic disruption occurred earlier today when a truck (SSD-591Z), transporting cooking oil from Somalia to Juba, overturned near Aru junction. The accident brought traffic to a standstill, leaving trucks and passengers stranded for nearly five hours.

Eyewitnesses reported that the driver lost control while negotiating a sharp turn, causing the vehicle to fall. Many blamed the poor state of the Juba-Nimule road, citing numerous potholes as a contributing factor.

Fortunately, both the driver and conductor escaped with only minor injuries. The Juba-Nimule road remains a critical supply route, and such incidents highlight the urgent need for road maintenance to ensure smoother and safer travel.

Eastern Equatoria peace minister reported missing

Eastern Equatoria State’s Minister of Peacebuilding, Marko Lokidor Lochapio, has been reported missing along with a government vehicle, raising concerns over his whereabouts.

Lokidor, appointed under the opposition Sudan People’s Liberation Movement-In Opposition (SPLM-IO) party led by First Vice President Riek Machar, disappeared last month.

In a press statement, Eastern Equatoria’s Minister of Information, Elia John Ahaji, confirmed Lokidor’s disappearance and said preliminary reports suggested the government vehicle registration number RSS EEG 143A may have been taken across the border and sold in Uganda.

“The Government of Eastern Equatoria State would like to inform the public that Minister of Peacebuilding Hon. Marko Lokidor Lochapio has disappeared along with the government vehicle,” Ahaji said. “Preliminary, unconfirmed reports suggest that the vehicle has been taken across the border and sold in Uganda. Additionally, it is said that the minister left the state using a motorcycle, heading toward a neighboring country.”

“The government is currently investigating this matter and urges anyone with relevant information to come forward,” the statement added.

Syria: Assad Regime Collapses Amid Rebel Advances

The Assad regime in Syria has reportedly fallen after swift advances by rebel forces, who captured key cities like Aleppo, Homs, and Hama before entering Damascus. President Bashar al-Assad is believed to have fled to an undisclosed location.

The collapse follows weakened military support for Assad from allies like Iran and Russia, as well as defections within the Syrian military. Jubilant celebrations have erupted across liberated areas, while international calls for a peaceful transition and negotiations intensify.

The situation remains fluid as opposition forces consolidate control and the international community monitors developments closely.

JUST IN: Singer John Kudusay Hints at Retiring in the Next Two Years

Legendary music icon John Kudusay announced that he would retire from the music industry in the next two years. Kudusay made this remark during his concert promotion at Sky View on Thursday.

“I’m quite sure that I have maybe one or two years left before my retirement from the music industry. I want to retire so I can focus on other things,” he said.

John Kudusay, however, mentioned that there is still a chance he will reignite the memories of his old songs at future events, but Kudusay gave no indication of composing new songs. “I will be performing old songs but will not be composing any new songs anymore,” he added.

Ngong Longar Mou, popularly known as John Kudusay, started his career in the 1980s. He is an undisputed revolutionary artist whose voice has captivated audiences. In the early 2000s, he predicted events that are currently unfolding in South Sudan. Among his songs is “Raan abi cuäng ke wëu,” among many others.

Don’t forget to attend his concert tonight at SkyView for Events, Bar and Restaurant the former uptown.
